Family-Friendly Fun on St. Thomas

Are you looking for a beautiful, laid back Caribbean destination where you can take your kids? Book your tickets to St. Thomas and start packing, because this island is perfect for families on the go!

St. Thomas is a wonderfully enchanting destination for families with young children and it offers plenty of fun things to keep your family busy and entertained.

Not traveling as a family? We also have helpful information for solo travelers, couples and groups.

Fort Christian

Your kids will be fascinated by this old fort which overlooks Charlotte Amalie and was built in 1672 to protect the town against pirates and European attackers. It is the oldest standing structure in the US Virgin Islands and throughout history it has been a town center, a government building and even a jail. Your little ones can climb around the Fort and you can check out the displays at the Virgin Islands Museum about the natives, the slave trade and the revolts.

Coral World Ocean Park

Your kids can get up close and personal with amazing wildlife at this St. Thomas aquarium center. There are many interactive activities available, such as a chance to swim with sea lions, touch sharks, feed stingrays or go on a Sea Trek Helmet Dive. See the amazing giant turtles or take a ride on the Nautilus semi-submarine and view a range of undersea creatures native to St. Thomas and the USVI.

Blackbeard’s Castle

Little kids love exciting legends of swashbuckling pirates sailing the seven seas, so check out the intriguing historical site at Blackbeard’s Castle. It dates back to 1679 when it was originally constructed as a watchtower to protect Fort Christian from attacks. It later passed into the hands of Blackbeard and served as the base for his operations. These days, the Blackbeard’s Castle area is a top-notch St. Thomas attraction, with historic houses, archaeological sites, botanical gardens, waterfalls, bars, museums and shops.

Secret Harbor

One of the best beaches in St. Thomas for families is Secret Harbor. It doesn’t get large waves, so it’s suitable for young ones to swim and play in safety. Secret Harbor also has a floating platform that is located just off shore and offers snorkeling equipment for rent. There is excellent snorkeling very close to the beach and you have a chance to spot eels, fish and even sea turtles here. Bring a towel or a picnic blanket to Secret Harbor, unless you want to pay to rent one of the beach chairs from the resort.
