While in Port

What the USVI Ports Have to Offer

With their white sand beaches, sparkling clear water, lively culture, fantastic Caribbean cuisine, and exciting activities, the US Virgin Islands are popular cruise ship destinations. If you head off the ship as early as possible it can be possible to visit two islands in one day, but this makes for a busy day and if you prefer not to rush you will have plenty to do if you simply focus on one USVI island.

St. Croix

The largest island of the three, St. Croix will dazzle you with rainforests, historic towns, palm trees, mountains and amazing beaches. Take a walk through the town of Christiansted and admire the charming Danish architecture, build during 1700s and 1800s when it was the capital of the Danish West Indies.

Arrange for a boat charter to take you to nearby Buck Island and go snorkeling in the beautiful blue waters of Buck Island Reef National Monument. St. Croix is also an ideal sport fishing destination and record size catches are common here.

St. John

The smallest of the US Virgin Islands, St. John makes up in beauty what it lacks in size. Two thirds of the island is covered by Virgin Islands National Park, a pristine wilderness that is home to a diverse array of animal species including turtles, bats and dolphins.

Miles of hiking trails cover the entire island, so pick up a map from the U.S. Park Service office in Cruz Bay and go exploring. Check out some of the small remote bays such as Little Cinnamon and Denis Bay, where you are likely to have the gorgeous tropical beach to yourself.

St. Thomas

There is plenty to do in the capital city of Charlotte Amalie, including jewelry shopping, dining and nightlife. Take the Skyride to the top of Paradise Point where you can enjoy an excellent view of the harbor and Charlotte Amalie.

Head to Coki Beach, the best snorkeling beach on St. Thomas, where you can enjoy amazing underwater visibility of 100+ feet. At Coral World you can get up close and personal with Caribbean marine life and hand-feed a stingray or pet a shark.

There is plenty to see and do while your cruise ship is in port in the US Virgin Islands, so make the most of it and enjoy!
