Summer Events on St. Croix

Summer in St. Croix may be the rainy season, but that doesn’t mean you should stay away! You can expect showers throughout the day in St. Croix rather than a constant downpour, and there will be great deals available on vacation packages and hotels.

Check out these exciting St. Croix summer events:

Kayak for Kids

June

The Kayak for Kids annual event is hosted by the St. Croix Lutheran Social Services, and it is a fundraiser for the Queen Louise Home for Children—a haven for young people who have been neglected, abandoned, or abused. Kayak for Kids participants can kayak or paddleboard through a long or short course and are encouraged to collect donations from sponsors. The event concludes with a picnic on Frederiksted Beach, complete with music as well as food and drink, all generously donated by the community. Kayak for Kids is not a race, so paddlers of all experience levels are welcome to join in on the fun.

Emancipation Day Celebration

July 3rd

Emancipation Day is a local celebration of the day in 1848 when the African slaves of St. Croix won their freedom, as well as all other slaves in the territory. There will be plenty of events in the town of Frederiksted, St. Croix to commemorate this special day, including musical performances, speeches, poetry readings, drumming circles, and much more.

Independence Day Fireworks

July 4th

If you are lucky enough to be in St. Croix on July 4th, you can join in with the fireworks celebrations in Frederiksted. There is always plenty happening during the US Independence Day holiday, including live local music, street vendors, and dance performances. The Frederiksted 4th of July fireworks usually start around 8pm, so be sure to grab a waterfront viewing spot early!

St. Croix Mango Melee and Tropical Fruit Festival

July

The summer season in St. Croix means delicious, juicy ripe mangos. These succulent fruits are celebrated in all their glory at the Mango Melee and Tropical Fruit Festival, an event at the St. George Village Botanical Garden in which chefs from all over the US Virgin Islands compete with their best mango recipes. Taste the fruity drinks, desserts, salsas, sauces and other creations, and even take part in the tropical juice making demonstration. There’s a mango-eating contest for the kids attending the St. Croix Mango Melee, while the Botanical Gardens will have a bar featuring fruity tropical rum drinks for anyone over 21.
